Need NOT Greed Campaign
In February 2009 we launched the Community Links Need NOT Greed campaign in the Houses of Parliament. Cash-in-hand work is a survival mechanism for many people living in poverty; they do so out of Need NOTGreed.
We are campaigning to end this reliance on cash-in-hand work and help people to make the transition into formal work, gradually come off benefits and at the same time not be thrown further into poverty.

- Cash-in-hand work is a survival mechanism for many people living in poverty; they do so out of Need NOT Greed.
- Working cash-in-hand contributes to the informal economy which is estimated to be 12.3% of the UK GDP.
- We are campaigning for the Government to help people out of cash-in-hand work into formal employment and to harness the informal economy.
The vision
To eliminate the need for cash-in-hand work and to help people make the transition into formal paid work and out of poverty.
- Why do people work cash-in-hand, how complex are the problems in the first place?
- What are the barriers to moving into formal work , how to end the need for cash-in-hand work?
- What we can do to harness the skills of people working cash-in-hand and how do we unlock peoples potential?
- How can government formalise workers and become a lot closer to hitting child poverty and employment targets?
The objectives of the Need Not Greed Campaign.
- Change National Policy to incentivise people to take up formal paid work and continue their progression in work
- Involve all departments responsible for the informal economy in developing a joined up Government strategy to effectively harness people working cash-in-hand
- Transform local service delivery to encourage people to formalise cash-in-hand work and move out of poverty.
- Launch a nation wide Department for Work and Pension pilot project offering support and guidence for people wishing to make the transition
- Ensure employment laws are upheld and that vulnerable workers are protected.
