Campaigns
Community Links has been running community-based projects in east London for over 30 years. We have helped thousands of children, young people, adults and older people in deprived neighborhoods. We work with local people to provide direct services, we share our local learning with practitioners and policymakers across the UK and, where appropriate, have developed national campaigns to lobby for changes to policy and procedures which are affecting the people we work with.
Currently Community Links, through our national team linksUK, are active in two national campaigns:
- The Need NOT Greed campaign, convened by Community Links, is a coalition of over 50 national and grassroots organisations including Oxfam, the TUC and UKCAP. The vision is to end the reliance on cash-in-hand, informal paid work and help people move off benefits and into formal paid work. Need NOT Greed is unique in specifically addressing the informal economy and poverty in the UK. For more information visit www.neednotgreed.org.uk .
- CREATE: A Community Allowance is a proposal for a new Community Allowance, a simple and dynamic support package enabling local people to do valuable and preventative work in their communities in partnership with community groups and public interest organisations. A coalition of organisations support the proposals which are outlined in our report. For more information visit www.communityallowance.org .
