Community Links is a social action charity that has been tackling poverty in east London since 1977, helping over 16,000 people in crisis each year to turn their lives around. We are the largest community organisation in the UK. East London has experienced unprecedented growth and regeneration in recent years but beneath the surface lies chronic deprivation; the highest levels of unemployment in the UK, 50% of children in poverty, worrying low educational attainment rates, serious problems associated with gang culture, crime, substance abuse and destructive behaviour, and families who are struggling to feed themselves.

Through our 40 social action projects, Community Links is helping those most at risk to build their own ladders out of poverty and towards a brighter future. Our national research, and policy work takes the lessons we learn in east London right to the heart of Westminster and across the UK, sharing our east London experience with decision makers and practitioners across the country.

Our strategic aims are to support the development of:

  • Skilled and enterprising individuals with the capacity and confidence to create and seize opportunity.
  • Resourceful neighbourhoods, equipped to help themselves and each other.
  • Connected and influential communities, which are engaged and empowered to shape their own future
